This retreat is a synthesis of Yoga Somatics, Embodied Mindfulness and Metta (Loving Kindness) Practices.
During this retreat we will explore and cultivate how techniques of Buddhist Mindfulness and Yoga Somatics as a system of body work can mitigate conflict and encourage a generosity of feeling to surface from within. As we work to undo physical tension through the asana, we create the conditions where improvement happens at the level of the physiology and in turn we feel love and we feel compassionate or generous towards other fellow humans. We give and we support when we ourselves feel good, resourced and balanced internally.
The body releases altruistic love along with the loosening of habit and conditioning. We also recognise that any physiological change promoting loving feelings needs support from the additional practice of awareness in life.
During this retreat we open up a relationship with the body , movement and touch founded upon understanding, loving attention and deep listening. With time and practice this orientation can transform the body into a refuge of peace where the feeling of love is experienced and shared.
During the afternoons on this retreat we will explore simple and effective somatic bodywork and movement techniques which promote grounding, breath awareness, alignment and ease of motion through the muscular skeletal system. This work is about understanding the power of touch from a place of deep embodiment and how it can regulate our nervous system bringing deep physiological balance, awakening kinaesthetic awareness and releasing feelings of internal support and love.
The spaciousness and natural purity of the island of Kjerringoy will support our exploration inside through her healing and loving embrace.
The focus within the teaching will be light allowing for spontaneity and natural insight to arise and guide us along the way.
There will be a 3 hour morning session and a 2 hour afternoon session for a period of 6 days.
The practices have a depth to them so require some level of concentration and patience.
Openness, receptivity and beginners mind are all welcome on this retreat.
To be eligible for this retreat, it is necessary for you to be interested in yoga and mindfulness and curious about what somatics is and be prepared to be on retreat in a remote area living simply.
